Recreational Property

the opportunity

A 20,000-acre recreational-use property in Barnwell County, SC is intensively managed for forestry and hunting purposes. The property managers were faced with a challenge to keep track of all activities happening on the property ranging from timber sales, quail hunting courses, to prescribed burn areas, etc. To manage the property, Milliken Advisors proposed a web-based Geographic Information System (GIS) solution that includes an interactive browser-based web map and a mobile app to be used on cell phones in the field.
gis solution

the results

Since Milliken implemented the web GIS solution, the landowner’s ability to manage the property has improved tremendously. Dozens of different activities are being tracked. A team of five users are creating GIS data daily using the mobile app to indicate the various activities happening on the property. This data is viewable through a browser-based GIS web map that brings context to the management of the property that did not previously exist. Having real-time data available has improved communication and decision making related to the operations of the property. Ultimately, maximizing these opportunities brings more value to the property.
